Dahlonega, GA. - A town of only 3600 people was host to the Capitol Christmas Tree Thanksgiving eve and Thanksgiving day. What a beautiful town indeed. This little town is nestled in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains has streets of a Thomas Kinkade print.
This is the first time they have had the honor of hosting a visit and celebration of the US Capitol Christmas Tree. This too was expressed by the Lieutenant Governor of Georgia, Casey Cagle, when he said, “Obviously this is a very historic moment not only for Dahlonega but for the state”.
The tree arrived a little late but at about 6pm sound of sirens could be heard. Shortly after hearing the sirens we could see the lights from the full motorcade with the tree transported by hometown hero Jeff Underwood who slowly pulled the tree down main street into the center of the crowd. Jeff had his children, Samuel that is 10 years old and Mary Ann that is 8 with him. They made their way through the crowd. Once he made it to the stage he said, “First of all, I want to thank everyone for coming out. I didn’t expect all this”.
During the Celebration many things were going on inclding: pictures with Santa, dancing, music, balloons, animals, face painting and more. Was quite a show.
